How do I generate people to a new singles site? - MastaP - 11-19-2012 02:28 AM

I am starting my own Personals website and offering 100% free memberships. I have advertised but since the site is new i haven't had any sign ups. I just want to offer a dating site for everyone to use for free.
I don't want to spam ...but if you want heres the site. http://bootscomputers.ca/date
I have advertised and submitted my site to most search engines. I own 3 websites I am experienced with marketing but Singles sites are more likely to be passed up if they don't have 100+ profiles. Thats is what i need.

Have you thought about pay per click programs? The two biggest, I think, are Yahoo! and Google

A few free resources – check out the sources box for links:

1) Create a blog pertaining to your field

2) Use Yahoo! Local & Yahoo! Groups – Be sure to read the TOS for each one!

3) Write articles pertaining to your field and/or expertise.

4) Advertise on Craiglist

Also, consider signing up for an affiliate program. These programs enable you to advertise on other's sites (your affiliates) and once a sale is made to you, your affiliates & the program are paid a commission.

I listed a few handy sites & articles relating to marketing, promotion & advertising. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* The Complete Idiot's Guide to Marketing Basics by Sarah White
* The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing by Al Ries, Jack Trout
* Creative Advertising: Ideas and Techniques from the World's Best Campaigns by Mario Pricken
* Entrepreneur Magazine's Ultimate Small Business Marketing Guide: Over 1500 Great Marketing Tricks That Will Drive Your Business Through the Roof by James Stephenson
* 301 Do-It-Yourself Marketing Ideas: From America's Most Innovative Small Companies by Sam Decker

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Lots of good ideas already here, but I would recommed picking up a copy of any of the Guerrilla Marketing books. And, think outside the box on the website stuff... Think OFFLINE to promote your site as well!

How about making up business cards and start bringing them with you when you are out and about where singles hang out. Pass them out and ask people to check it out -for free. Go to where you'll find a concentration of singles and run a promotion. Offer prizes like shirts or something - have them fill out a form for the drawing and that will generate a database for you - including an email address.

Type up a press release and sent it out to area media...or national media (community newspapers, etc.). That will only cost you the price of a stamp or two.

Set up a "signature card" for your emails - so, every time you send an email, you are listing your website with it.

Put up flyers at local grocery stores, bars, library, etc...just ask permission first.

Think about another business that you might be able to cross-promote with...area restaurant, bar, social club, etc. Maybe there's a pizza place that will allow you to put a flyer on the pizza boxes - in return, you can offer to promote the place on your website.

I guess my point would be in all of these ideas is to not only advertise ONline, but also OFFline - create a good marketing mix that will include several different mediums.
Good Luck!
