What's the point of Gmail Buzz? - Katherine - 11-19-2012 02:34 AM

I really don't get the point of it, besides the fact that they are seriously copying twitter and facebook. What do you think of it?

Well coming from Google its much safer than Facebook and Twitter ever will be due to the HTTPS that Google has recent enforced. More security means less people hacking into accounts and changing/deleting/adding stuff.

Google really just wants you to stay on their website as long as possible for more ad time. Thats what it really comes down to.

Google is known for being on the cutting edge for all of their apps and such, so the fact that gmail didn't have a status like feature looked bad for them. Also with Chrome, they have a real possibility of over taking internet explorer/mozilla/facebook/everything pretty much, by being able to provide it all in one package, so they needed to step up and do this. I'm not sure why its been such a big hit though, personally I think the fact that buzz gets sent to your email is overkill. A lot of people already routinely open email to find 20+, 50+, etc messages waiting for them!

Hope that helps you hate it a little less, haha =)
