You can get traffic to your site for free if you put in some work.
1. For all emails that you sent out to friends or business and non-spam, you put a signature with your website.
2. Sign up the most active forum in that area. Be part of the community be contribute to the forum. For every post, put a signature with your website.

http://www.ICanBeFinanciallyFree.com has an online video tutorial on how to increase traffic, Im studying it at the moment, the module is called Traffic Generation, there's about 9 videos to watch and learn.

Advertising services and products online is fairly easy. There is no 'best' way but it is to use all the affordable ways to get good results.
1. Free way – most people use classifieds such as
http://www.sellit-right.com (UK,USA, International) for services/ products promotion. You can Feature your ad there.
http://www.craigslist.com (UK, USA).
2. Post your links to your pages to social bookmarking sites that accept it.
3. Create a blog / mini site of your own to talk about your site using http://www.blogger.com
Keep at it everyday (or more) online a week to see good results. People are interested when you keep them interested. If you stop advertising you lose potential sales and no one remembers you.
