How can I get affiliate marketing to work for me? - EZE - 11-26-2012 08:39 PM

I know how affiliate marketing works but I'm a little confused about how to get people to my site. Lets say for example that I want my website to sell golf products (through affiliates). I've heard "content is king" but how do I write about golf to put on my site? I think I may be missing the point and any help would be good. Thanks.

You need targeted traffic coming to your site. If you're selling something about "golf swing" for example, then you want people who are interested in improving their golf swing to find your content.

1. What words would people type into the search engines to find your product? Those then become your keywords. Keeping in mind competition, long-tail keywords...

2. Put out content...articles, videos, blog posts, etc... with those keywords on it.

This is the simplistic way to explain how to get targeted visitors to your site.

To get high organic search engine rankings, you have to add plenty of content on your website with targeted keywords. So add loads of golf-related articles to your website, the search engines count the number of targeted keywords and relevent links on your site, and rank your site based on relevance. The more golf-related keywords and links you have on your site you will achieve higher search engine rankings which should equal more traffic which should equal more sales.

For example, you can add anchor links on your site specifying certain brands. For example say you have a products review page, a link with the anchor text ' Buy Tiger Shark Pro 888 18 set golf clubs' (i just made up pro 888 as a fictional model) would be more relevent than 'Buy these clubs'. This is keyword targeting, and will drive targeted traffic to your site through the search engines when someones types into the search engines 'I want to buy 18 set Tiger Shark Pro 888 clubs', you will receive higher search engine rankings than the standard 'buy these clubs' link.

Add plenty of keywords to your website of the exact phrases people might type into search engines when searching for the products you're selling.

The next step to achieving high rankings is to build links. build plenty of inbound links by submitting your website to good quality web directories with high alexa scores, many are free. Submit your site to at least 400 directories by hand (don't use automated software because you might get penalised) just stick to 10 a day. But the best way is to ask golf related websites (preferably not ones selling the same products as you) already with high google rankings to link to your site with a reciprocal link from your site. Doing this will increase your google search engine rankings.

More targeted keywords + More links = Higher search engine rankings = More traffic = More Sales

If you got some money to spend, you can drive traffic to your site with Pay-Per-Click such as Google Adwords, or Facebook Advertising. Although you will get traffic instantaneously, it can be very expensive and maybe not worth it unless you do a bit of research and educate yourself on PPC.

Try to have at least 10 pages on your website, and you want visitors to stay as long as possible on your site to be successful. You could add articles like 'beginner's guide to starting golf', 'How to improve your swing', 'The best golf courses in the UK', 'nightmare golf holidays - a personal experience' etc, etc. Then you could have a Products Review site with recommended golf clubs to buy etc etc. Add videos etc etc. Content is King. And throughout your site you could chuck in your affiliate links here and there but not bombard the page with them because the search engines might penalize this. And add a few affiliate linked banners.

It takes several months for the search engines to fully index your site, so add content submit to search engines and directories and just be patient. Once you're receiving 100s of visitors a day, you should start making some sales!
