What does the Future hold for Marketing Business? - Ann - 11-26-2012 08:40 PM

I need a little help on this, I know nothing about marketing and I'm in a Marketing Class also.

Marketing in it's broadest sense is going both ways. It's embracing the future (because it's all going digital) but it's having a massive retro throwback because we're all talking about brands like people spoke of them in little villages way back. This is I believe is because of two reasons: firstly we can now talk to everyone and everyone is listening (social media) and secondly because brands have moved from a weird manufacturer concept to a personal concept (the whole idea of 'if Coke became a person'). We're talking about Nike, Coke, Mercedes Benz and other big brands as if they are people. Just like when Jim down the road made the cheese and if he sold bad cheese for one day everyone knew and hid name took a dive.

This (compounded by the recent financial crisis) moved brands back into the workshops. Quality sold.

I think you might be asking the wrong question here. Marketing is fickle and moves with the times. What is more interesting is to watch what is happening to strategic brand building. What are the fundamental pillars under brand building doing and how are markets shifting at an aggregate level.

If you're passionate about brands you should skip the marketing classes and attend sociology and philosophy. Wink
