Because it is human instinct to join a group and attack those outside of it, it is basic survival. And because that is how our leaders want us. As long as we are fighting over random nonsense we will keep missing the bigger picture, letting the powers that be stay in control. People are afraid of each other when they should see other human beings as allies against the dehumanization of the world.
