What are the advantages and or disadvantages of using recent technologies, such as the internet like facebook and cell phones, to communicate, instead of having face-to-face meetings?

Innovations in communications systems are enhancing the way companies work and bringing people closer together.
Bloggs A blog is short for a ‘Web log’. This is a form of communicate were people can make entries on a specialised site. People can make a log of personal events or share their insight onto a particular product or issue. These sorts of communication can enhance a company’s productivity in many ways. The customer and company can build a community and share their information with a wider variety of people. This sort of web logging is of a much lower cost than conventionally building an entire site from scratch, also the company will not have to employ a web designer or train someone to programme in HTML. A company that has a blog also tends to get better search engine results.
Forum
A forum is a public meeting place on the web were poele can have open discussion sabout a chosen subject. Users can post the questions or points of view and then get replies from others. A forum is also known as a news group. Forums are also threaded, which means a reply to a particular posting becomes part of the "thread" of that posting that can be followed to provide a cohesive progression through a particular topic. You can get the references of your previous postings as well.
Some advantages of forums:
•Forums facilitate the exchange of ideas and information. There are forums based on topics on which one can login in order to share/get information from others. Its acts like a big virtual information centre.
•Forums are the platform where the like minded people meet. You can have a forum based on your subject matter as well. One can cultivate their hobby through forums. Informations on wide range of topics are discussed through the forum.
•It plays an important role in attracting traffic. Visitors will visit your website in order to see the update of the forums. It is also found that people come back to the site in order to view a discussion on some interesting topic as well. Forums makes the visitors to come back to your website again and again.
•Forums can be faster, cheapest and the most effective way of promotion. the forum administrator can send messages to all those who are using the forum. If you are selling something new through your website, then you can intimate all the forum members immediately.
•Forum helps in business creation as well. The website owner can advertise about his latest products and services to all the forum members. As the membership of the forum grows the strength of the advertising impact goes increasing.
