I need help on ICT question about personal data? 10 points for best answer!? - Naaa - 11-27-2012 06:52 AM

The question is "there are concerns about the implications of the increased storage by organizations of personal data about people"

Discuss the above statement.

I'm clueless on what to write about. This is a practice exam paper building up to my Mock Exams in January and on the paper, the question is worth 9 marks on a past paper higher tier test.

Every interaction you have allows someone to gather some data about you. You buy something online, a company gets your name, address, credit card info, etc...

You login to Facebook and post pictures and personal details, Facebook stores it all...

Goggle tracks websites that you search for and visit...

What if this information fell into the wrong hands? What if you could not get health insurance because of something you posted on Facebook. What if someone breached Amazon.com's servers and got your financial details, what if someone hacked your doctor's computer where your medical records are stored?

You can talk about it from a privacy angle, or from a security angle (how secure is your data in Amazon's computers)? There are all kinds of academic papers that could be written on this topic.
