let's say you are following someone on twitter but they are not. so does this mean your tweets won't be on they page. (they can't see your tweets)

Yes, that person cannot see whatever you wrote, unless he/she looks at your profile BUT he can see if you tag him (@username) and it will appear in his mentions

I'm pretty sure you will see the replies to someone else's tweet only if you are following that person. So if I write something on twitter, and five people respond to that tweet, the only way you will see it in your time line is if you are following me, or one of those five people.
