I am giving away a free shopping app that really helps people save money. I created a facebook fan page which has the link to my website to channel facebook traffic to my site but now i just need advise on getting people to my page

The key to getting more Facebook traffic is having lots of people LIKE your page so it spreads like a virus. There are services where you can pay people to like anything, or you can start small and let it grow by enticing them. You put up an iFrame page with a teaser offer showing and they need to like your page to see the rest. Each time they do, it puts a message on their news feed with a link back to your page. This is really simple to do with a plugin for Wordpress.

use twitter or ask your friends. You can also post it to social bookmarking sites like http://BookMarkNinja.com to get more backlinks and increase your google rankings.

You may try inviting your friends first to view your face book fan page so they can view the free app. You can also opt to drive a promotional contest where in the winner may get the free app as a gift.
It also might be helpful if you put a short narrative as to how the free app may help them as well or a testimonial from someone, including you on how the app was successful in saving money. If you have money to spare, you can also try to avail of a service to market your site or free app which is entirely your choice.

Getting traffic to a FB fan page is no different than getting traffic to any other website; you are going to have to put a little bit effort.
There are several ways you can do this; you can read articles include a link back to your page as long as you give good and relevant information.
Maybe think about doing some social bookmarking; or maybe even posting on related blogs that will help build up the back links to your page.
Granted these are very basic but still effective tools to begin driving traffic to your webpage.
