I have had a twitter for a while but i only used it to stay updated with my favorite tv shows, sports, news etc. I want get my friends to follow me but idk the natural system. Is it like when you follow them, they will follow you back? Or you have to request somehow? Do i just tell them? What is the natural way of gaining followers?

If you follow them it shows them who is following and they can choose to follow back or not. Some people will, some won't. I'm sure your friends will. Best way to get followers is search for people with similar interests or who follow people you like (celebs, pop stars, football players etc). Usually if you follow someone they follow back. You can also buy followers but if it's just for a personal account it's not really needed. There's some good advice already on YA.

Well, yeah, first of all you need to give your followers a reason to follow you in the first place. Make sense right?
There are a lot of ways in gaining followers in a natural way. The most perfect is the exchange method. But its hard finding people for such stuff and this is why twitter exchange websites exist.
