I was googling an old friend and found their facebook, google even has a few posts they made on some fan-pages. But the account doesn't seem to exist, not even the posts on the fan-pages. Is this because they deleted their account, or because they have strict privacy settings?

probably because they deleted the accounts, otherwise you'd be able to find the profile page.
