I've been just wondering , since websites like google , yahoo , Facebook are free and members do not have to pay for membership or anything, how does the owner of this kind of a website profit from the website.

They get paid from advertising, kind of like radio, television, or free newspapers. People pay to put ads on websites that have high traffic.

They earn a lot of money through advertisements...even i used to wonder...but reality is they earn millions by advertising about other businesses on the sides(for facebook)....and in the search results(for google)
