Why does everyone like facebook so much? - bku - 12-06-2012 06:35 AM

It seems like Facebook became the defacto way of socializing. I have a Facebook myself, but I made one purely out of peer pressure.
I honestly prefer meeting people face to face over chatting on the internet.
I agree it's more convenient, especially for friends living out of state, but you can't see your friend's face and emotion over the internet, or even hear their voice. I think they matter quite a lot in any friendship.

I guess facebook is a way of breaking the ice for a lot of people, it's also a way to connect with people you are unable to see face to face. like long distance relatives.

Who is everbody? There are tons of people who give a rats ass about facebook.

I'm with ya, Matt. I visit my own FB...page? wall? whatever the hell it is...about three times a year. Yawn.

And I never was big on being counted a sucker. Facebook went from being a helluva lot more than a "social" network. Now every big commercial interest, every self-promoting "celebrity," every suckup politician, is on Facebook. It's Advertising Central.

I'm not interested.

I don't. I left facebook after I was asked a very rude question.

IMO:
Nobody chats on Facebook. Facebook is not used for urgent effective communication (that's for cell phones). Everyone likes Facebook so much because it gives them a chance to be somebody by displaying their personality (through pictures, videos, thoughts, statuses, creative humor etc) as they won't be able to do it in the real world. The reason we all know how uptight people are in the real world, everyone doesn't get a chance to shine. So the girl who looks boring in the real world might have a whole another side of her personality which she can display on Facebook or the nerdy guy who nobody talks to might have 8 pack abs which no one would ever have known but thanks to Facebook profile pics Wink . They call it socializing but I call it self marketing among peers of your abilities and yourself, come on now we all need a place in this world. That's my 2 cents, I really don't answer much but I liked your question.
