I can't seem to find a way to send inbox messages to my fans ... is there a way or do I have to use updates ?

I'm not even sure if there's a way to do that? You might have to befriend all of your fans, and depending on how famous you are, that might take a while lol.

Open your friends profile that you want to send message,now at the top of the profile you will see a tab named "Message",open it and write the message and send,the message will go into your friends inbox....have fun

It depends on whether you have a Fan Page or a Group Page.
Messaging to members on a Fan Page is possible only via updates, while the Private Messaging option to their inbox is only via Group Page.
Fan Pages are generally better for long term relationships with your readers, fans etc. while Group Pages are better to get quick attention and for a quick active discussion.

Why not post it on your status bar. After you post it, your fans will be able to see it in the news feed in you fan page.
