What ethical questions can viral marketing raise? - Miss Bri - 12-08-2012 03:57 PM

Or, what is an example of new media such as YouTube, cell phones and social media that can raise ethical questions?

Thanks!

Use of Social Media can cause people to be unaware that they are receiving adverts, and that those sending the message are being paid for their participation. A recent controversy in the UK occurred when several well known twitter users tweeted unusual things, finally revealed to be an advertising campaign for "Snickers" bar, with the advertising line that "you are not yourself when you're hungry". This caused a problem as people felt that they were receiving advertising when they had opted out of receiving advertising.
