how could facebook be created if sites like myspace already had already been created? - Brandon C - 12-09-2012 10:23 PM

How was creating facebook not like stealing the idea of a social network from a site like myspace. Like how could facebook have been created without "copying" ideas from myspace?

Because you can't copyright an idea. So you can't copyright the idea of a social network, only functions unique to a specific site.
From the US copyright office: "Copyright does not protect facts, ideas, systems, or methods of operation, although it may protect the way these things are expressed".
