One of my friends is an artist and I'd like to help her get her works known online. She's making a webpage for herself but I think a facebook fan page would also be a good idea. Or is it? Do artists benefit from FB pages?
How hard is it to make one anyway? I don't see the instructions for making one

make sure you don't have one already, then just log on to their website and enter the info they ask you to enter

Go to facebook click join it is hard at first like anything but it gets easier of course.

go to facebook.com and click sign up
it will ask you if you want to make a specific type of profile and will give you options
pick the one that sounds most appealing and it will make it, just enter in your info and upload pictures and you will be set
make sure their website link is in the info section
and have them make a profile account just for them and not to advertise and suggest the page to your friends
you will have fans in no time

its a good idea people she can post on fb updates about her webpage and her work and so on its not that hard go to a facebook page towards the bottom click on create a page and than follow the instructions good luck

Hmm, all the answers that you got so far in here, tell you how to create a personal Facebook profile. But you asked about creating a Facebook Fan Page. To create one, go to any fan page, scroll to the bottom, and on the left sidebar will be "Create a Page For My Business". Creating one is easy, anyone can do it. Of course, if you want some custom welcome tab, then you would hire a developer. But even without external help, the fan page can be made very interesting, using Facebook Applications, such as the ones listed here: http://tomuse.com/facebook-apps-fan-pages/
It is absolutely worth it, especially if she is an artist. Her work is very visual, and it will be easy to market on Facebook, using Photo Gallery.
