Does it bother you when writers post their stories on Yahoo Answers? - Snarky Novelist - 10-03-2012 05:38 PM

Let me elaborate:

I always see writers (young writers especially) posting about their "books". Giving out character names, their entire plot, and then asking us for help. Or, just in general, giving us all the details on their story and asking us if we would read it. Sure, it's a free country, they can do what they want, but somehow it wriggles under my skin as an annoyance. Maybe I'm just fed up with new writers? Share your thoughts.

Sincerely,

Snarky writer and editor.

You can find me on twitter as @SnarkyNovelist.
I guess I've grown bitter. Should stay away from new writer threads.... I get enough of them daily when I'm sent manuscripts for approval. Phew.
OK OK, let me rephrase... it bothers me when some people do it... and when they're inexperienced.. and when they sound like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9fc-crEFDw

no it doesnt bother me, and if it bothers you then maybe you should stop looking at them. but seriously sometimes people want feedback from random people and without new writers, we'd never have old writers

it dosent bother me, probably because i am a young writer, but i didnt give the plot away on yahoo answers i posted my weebly chanel and gave the first 2 chapters away, most people do it becaue they want people to read, to them it is like advertisment

It doesn't bother me. Once in a great while I see something pretty good and can say so.
Mostly it's amateurish drivel, but it doesn't bother me at all. I can choose not to read it.

Don't care, if they want to who is stopping them? It is your choice to answer and them.

They are young and they want to write good books loved by every now and then. They become a bit of confused that what shall they do. And should not get fed up of them. There has to be fresh feeling in the world of literature. Think what the literature will become if everyone just like Stephenie Meyer Books? Seriously, readers like new writers.

no because i do it ^_^ we just want advice because its like we're shoving our books down people's throats if we ask our friends and family for help yahoo answers is meant for answers to our questions so why not?

I'm not so much bothered that they do it,but its how they do it.they often include a lot of detail that really isn't needed for the critique on their plot that they are looking for.its annoying to read trash or copied stories from someone that thinks they have an great piece because they came up with some charecter names.a lot of these people don't actually want an honest critique either they want to hear-good job.the best answers end up be-cool story bro.answer mine *includes link*.it annoys me to know they aren't actually seeking to better their work or know what we honestly think like they claim, but to get false hope from the other immature "aspiring authors" in this forum.

It only bothers me when they do that and say that it's going to make them famous...or when they say that they want to write a bestseller, then ask for ideas...apart from that, I don't mind what they post (generally don't read them, either).
