Is there a good market for Indian Ringneck Parrots? - Birdwoman5 - 12-13-2012 09:31 AM

Is there a good market for breeding and selling Indian Ringnecks ? I live in Indiana. Also What size cage do I need for a Breeding pair? Would it be better to hand raise the chicks or to let the parents raise them? What size nesting box? Haha Lots of Questions! Thanks for any answers! ( ;

Depends on a lot of things. I never heard of anyone who got very rich breeding birds. If you take care of your birds properly with good food, vet visits, proper cages , good breeding stock, you will be lucky to break even. Most people want a hand fed , well socialized bird. Your life will not be your own for at least 2 months as birds must be fed every 2 -4 hours depending on age. That means most of your social life will be eat and run even for your parents special wedding anniversary. Most breeders pull their babies at 10 to 14 days for handfeeding . In an emergency (accidents, killer parent, death, etc) you may have to feed from Day 1. (in this case you will have no social life at all ). If you are asking this question here ,you need to do a lot more research. It would be most helpful if you had a relationship with an avian vet and/or a breeder friend.
