My account was public for some time before I finally made it private. Will the previous public tweets ever disappear from Google search?

yes eventually when google crawls twitter, he won't re-index some some of the tweets. It might take some days or some weeks.

Twitter uses <meta content="NOODP" name="robots" /> in page source , check if you twitter page has this line if it has it google bot will not cache the pages and your past tweets will not be available , the only way that someone can still find your tweets if is some service or other human copied them and put then on a public website / server .
Only indexes but not the full page with all tweets will be available in google for some time but will disappear after some time .
