I want to do the twitter thing but don't know how it works exactly. Please tell me what it is and how it works.

Twitter is a social networking site that allows you to write messages (aka tweets) that will be displayed on your profile page; visible to any users who choose to "follow you" who can read all of your tweets, displayed on their pages. If you follow a user (these can be your friends and family, businesses or celebrities", their tweets will be visible on your profile. You can also "retweet" tweets by reposting messages that have been written by other users, also visible to your follows. You can also change the settings so you have to accept any follower requests before they can read your tweets. Each tweet is designed to be less than a couple of sentences long and there is also a private message function, where you can privately contact single users who you follow.
