What would happen if I cleared the contact data from my HTC Evo? - Sandra G - 12-14-2012 01:05 PM

Lately, my HTC EVO gives me a notification in the task bar that it is 'low on space'. I went to my Settings and cleared all unnecessary data. BUT my contacts is taking 97 MB of data! How in the world does that work!? I'm afraid to clear the data though, because I don't want to lose my contacts.

What would exactly happen if I cleared my contacts data?
Also, if you tell my to sync to GMAIL, please explain, because I have no idea how.

Alright, thanks in advance!

How it could happen is you have a lot if dupes, or an app that saves every number that calls or texts you as a different contact automatically. Or you have set all your Facebook contacts as phone contacts. Now if I were to do that, with over 4,000 game friends, I'm sure I'd have a pretty large contact list as well, if you included pictures.

So go to your gmail account, go through your most IMPORTANT contacts and EXPORT them to a file. Then delete all the contacts you do not want.

Do the same on your phone, and only keep the contacts that you really want.

Turn off any Social Networking contact sharing with your phone.
Make sure your carrier does not also sync contacts, if so, turn that off, after trimming contacts down to what you really want (removing dupes and unwanted contacts)

Now sync your phone with Gmail, so that the phone and gmail have the same contacts. Under the auto sync settings on your phone, under settings.
