What does it mean to "tag" someone on facebook? - Tanner - 12-15-2012 02:37 PM

What does it do, what's the point of it? What's the difference between tagging & poking someone on facebook?

tagging in like pictures and video & status means that the person is in the video/picture/status
poking is just random

To tag someone means that you're sort of representing them. For example, if I took a picture with you, I'd most likely tag you in the photo, so that way you're recognized in it. People do the same thing with statuses. Instead of just saying "... is hanging out with Jon Doe", you can type in your status "...is hanging out with @Jon Doe" and it tags them , so they are represented and get a notification saying that you did so. Tagging somebody gives other people the chance to click on that person's name and view their Facebook page, depending on privacy settings.

Poking is just a sort of game of two person tag. You just poke each other back and forth. It's not really that important, by my best friend and I have been having a poke war going for about six months.
