Is there a way to do a search like a "google search" for tweets and updates on twitter. For example can I type "Saint Louis University" somewhere and get results from twitter that involve this key term.

Yes, on your main page look over to the side bar and there is a search bar. Just use that.

Either use the search bar on your twitter home page (below Home, Direct Messages, etc) or go to http://search.twitter.com

you can use feald.com for it , you will get video , images and wikipedia on search
