I am new to facebook and I see lots of people with the boxes application and i cant figure out how to get it on my profile.

you should go to facebook help page.

Go to your own profile.
At the top, below your name and next to the Wall, Info, Photos, there should be a plus sign, or a yellow box that allows you to add a Boxes tab.
