Twitter has an option to send direct messages on the right hand side (your right)!

basically after you follow them, just write "@_____" fill in the blank with their username and then write what you want to. or you can direct message them by clicking on the "direct messages" option on your side bar and then typing "@_____" fill the blank in with their user name, and write what you wanna say to them. direct messages on twitter is only read by the person and nobody else
