Why is the hash tag used so much on twitter? I don't use it in my tweets an kinda feel left out

Hash tags are used so you can see similar tweets.. If you click on the hash tag it'll send you to a page where all the tweets have that hash tag. But you can also make some up and have fun with it. At first i didn't exactly know how to hash tag but you get the hang of it.

hashtags are used as categories for tweets...this is useful when you want to see all the tweets for a specific subject
you can use it so you can put it under that "category"
for example, if you search for #YOLO or #KONY2012 you can see all the tweets regarding that subject

well its for making it a trend or highlighting it.
