TWITTER – What is the heck is all the fuss about? - Tom - 01-07-2013 06:34 PM

I’m not very computer literate but I’ve been hearing alot about this new website called “Twitter”, lately. . Is this website actually usefullin any way? I’m an adult professional in my 40s so just wondering if this website is actually a useful tool I can use for something or just a time waster

It's for people who NEED to be "in the know" 24 hours a day. It's useless in my opinion. Same with the people who can't survive unless they have a cell phone glued to their face.

Total time waster as is Facebook and MySpace

I have found Twitter to be very useful professionally. I write about personal finance on the web, and it's a great way to keep in touch with other people in my field. The best thing about Twitter, in my opinion, is that it opens doors to connect with people you don't know very well. I "follow" people on Twitter that I have never made contact with before, and Twitter makes it easy for me to learn a bit more about them, and possibly make contact. It also allows other people to learn a bit more about me and to connect with me if they so choose.

So far I've made connections to help my website, connected with a woman who can help me find a job in the city I'm planning to move to, and had conversations with people who are in my field and also enjoy my favorite television shows.

Like many other internet tools, Twitter is about the message, not the medium. How you use it is 99% of what counts, not the service itself.
