i notice on Kirstys programme she has a hash sign infront her name .what does it mean ,and i just read an article that has a hash sign in front of a word ,any one know ?

it means they either have smoked, eaten or condoned the use of hashish (aka hash) and are letting everyone know they are cool.

As everyone else has said, hash tagging which can also link whatever you post online to the twitter account with said name (i.e. "#XFactor tonight was awesome!" - would put that on the "#XFactor" twitter page :-)
