Temporarily or permanently? Sometimes accounts are temporarily suspended (Twitter jail) if you send out too many tweets in a short time span.

Permanent bans - spamming, tweeting objectionable material about someone and they complain, illegal activity, kiddie porn, infringing on someone's privacy, threatening someone, tweeting copyrighted material are the usual culprits.

Quite often someone with a thin skin takes petty offense at a tweet and lodges a false complaint. It's sad how often that happens. If you've done nothing wrong, go to the link below and lodge an appeal. You'll be back up in no time. A lot of people keep a second account ready because this happens so often.
