I would create the new email account and keep the old one until you change everything. Some require that a confirmation be sent to the old address. If the site's ID is not your email address then changing the address is fairly simple. When the email address is the ID then it is a little more difficult. You can cancel the old account and open a new one with the desired information. Or simply open a new account with a different name and password, and use both.
