long story but I basically have to follow them,but I don't want them following me,so haven't accepted their follower request,so if I follow them,but don't accept their request, can they see my tweets or not?please say they can't

They should not be able to when you have your tweets protected. It is only public tweets that people can see even if they don't follow someone.
