It would appear the arrival of their first grandchild has been seen by Kate’s parents as a marvellous business opportunity. They are promoting a range of baby goods on the Party Pieces website — with paper plates decorated with a blue or pink crown and the words ‘A New Little Prince’ and ‘A New Little Princess’.

As queen consort she will not have the power of ennoblement.

You know it's actually quite similar except the Woodvilles were of the lower nobility and the Middletons aren't- but I don't think that in this day and age people would permit this and even if they do no one really cares.

No but she could ask her husband to as Royals are allowed to award medals to the family. There is no law against the Middletons being opportunistic with their party line pieces and they are just doing what another family with a similar business would do. No doubt Prince Charles probably has a chat to the Middletons about how to make his Duchy Originals more profitable since they run a successful business.
The main similarities seems to be with Elizabeth Woodville and Catherine is that they are both commoners.

Kate will be a Queen-Consort. If anyone's to be ennobled, the letters patent are issued in William's name.
