Me and my friend made a website a few weeks back (carriedawaybrownlee.webs.com) and we don't know how to get people to see it. We made a twitter account and have been adding people and tweeting them but they won't check it out. Help!

Without paying for it, most sites get visitors through search engine listings, which is the result of Content, Lnks from other sites and Time, for sure you will need lots more content to get on the search engines radar, 10 pages of original stuff is a start. Links in blog comments and forum signatures are the easiest to get yourself.
You need to submit your site to the search engines for indexing, just Yahoo, Bing and Google will account for most traffic. (I checked, Google doesn't know bout it yet)

Basically you have paid traffic, PPC (Pay Per Click) which can be done via Google, Yahoo/Bing or Facebook, and free or organic traffic. Depending on your budget and target market, you can chose one or the other or both.
I assume you are more interested in free traffic, so I will list few ways you can get traffic from search engine.
Search engines like unique, relevant, fresh content that is found useful by its visitors. Hence I would suggest that you start working on social marketing (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin), video marketing (YouTube, Veoh, Vimeo), article marketing (Ezine Articles, Article Alley, Article Base), press releases (here you can find list of 20 free press releases in source box), content marketing (Squidoo, HubPages, Knol, Tumblr, Blogger, Identica, Wordpress). Make sure you link all posts on those sites to your web site so you can get back-links.
You can also find blogs with PR 5 and higher in your topics and comment on their post with link to your web site. Just make sure you are providing value, not just making comments for sake of getting back-link since that is spamming.
Participation in forums or newsgroups can bring you traffic as well.
As you can see there are multiple ways to get more organic traffic to your web site, it is up to you to choose ones best for you and your situation. Hope this helps, feel free to ask any questions you might have
