How can I get people to buy my book? - datmlechick - 01-16-2013 09:17 PM

So I just wrote and published a book. How can I get people to buy it without being all desperate? So far I've sent out a mass message on facebook telling people about it, and I plan to do press releases and emails through my publisher. What else can I do?

Thank you

A couple of things to consider...

You may want to consider making it into an ebook and posting it to various ebook sites. Perhaps make the table of contents free or even the first chapter free to entice potential readers without any risk to them, especially if you are an unknown author.

You can run Facebook ad campaigns and target those people that match the profile of the book's subject. Test different ad words to determine which converts the best.

Marketing your book via a press releases is a good way to get general visibility. Just write up a release that has a good story to it. Perhaps about your life, or why you wrote the book, etc. Anything interesting to catch the attention of bloggers and journalists. What you want is for someone else (an influencer) to write on your book. That will get you exposure to their captive audience. You can use services such as http://www.prnewswire.com to distribute the release. Perhaps attach a photo of the book and of yourself. Press release services can send it out to all the applicable journalists, editors and bloggers.

You can also consider online book publishers like http://www.publishersmarketplace.com/.

Either way, good luck!

You can also try targeted advertisement. This will help you get more potential real customers rather than the windows shoppers. Advertising in open generally a bit more expensive and sometimes doesn't produce enough potential customers. That's because it's kind of forced marketing where a user feels the advertisement is being forced upon him. I know of a site which does targeted advertisement where it identifies potential customers and passes your website link to them if seem to be potential customers. You can get more info from them.
