We've all seen the Face Book pages of people who have hundreds of pics of themselves, the 24/7 Tweets, Instagrams, etc.
Why do people feel the need to express to other people where they are, what they ate, what they feel?
And, why do people who defy this culture and refuse to have a FB, Twitter etc. not admired, but in fact pressured to engage in these activities?

This probably isn't the answer you were looking for - but all the internet has done is place another medium for people who seek these things to well, seek them. In other words, the answer to your question is yes; and the explanation pretty much is just : It just is.

i don't have any of those and i don't get pressured to join in BUT i am looked upon as a little bit weird for not having any of these accounts -- not that i let it bother me.
hundreds of photos -- really? some people have WAY too much time on their hands!

I don't really see it that way. I see posts to FB etc. as a way to continue to socialize with friends. Of course, these things can get overdone, but that is not to say that most people over do it. At least, I don't think so.

I deleted my FB like 6 years ago.. just when it started getting crazy.

Exhibitionism is there in real world too. The way we dress up, the way we decorate our house, etc, etc. I guess we are naturally competitive and seek to outdo each other. You cannot know about other people unless they choose to exhibit themselves. So why not?
I was a big fan on facebook because i could see what all my friends from childhood are doing. My dad is in navy, so i always had new set of friends each year...hehe
Although, for me, Facebook pales in comparison to Yahoo Answers.
