Is there any way to activate a smartphone without a data plan? - J D - 01-16-2013 10:09 PM

If I was to but an Apple, Android, Palm, or Blackberry OS phone from Amazon or straight from the manufacturer, is there anyway to activate them just over wifi without having a data plan?

I know there is one app on the Android market that blocks out all 3G & GPS capabilities. Is there anything like that on the other OS? or is there any way I could "jailbreak" "root" or hack the phone once I get it?

No matter what you do ( unlock, root or hack it ) once you use the phone your carrier will automatically detect you using their smartphone, they will likely to add a higher data plan a much more expensive one if you didn't choose one.

If you just use the internet without the data plan, the price of your monthly bill will surprise you.
Data uses very quickly if you stream videos, music, email. facebook, etc..

Once you use a smartphone your carrier will know and will be very generous and tell you that they've signed you up for a data plan.

Hi.No matter where you purchase the phone,it'll still require a data plan when you try to active it on your service provider.
