I always ask myself this question over
and over again. I know facebook is a
non commercial site making it returns
from the adds it serves. But still that
wouldn't stop them from developing a
window base application. This is where I am lost. If anyone have the
light, please enlighten me on what you
think is the cause of them still sticking
to the old fashion

Why would they? They are in a totally different market and the whole concept of social networking is based on being web-based. plus desktop based application is old fashioned as these days "cloud" is where you want your product to be on, so your reach is virtually limitless. If we ignore the fact that it doesn't make the slightest sense for them to go desktop, just imagine the cost, time and pain they need to go through to make a facebook application that works on Windows, Apple (OSX) and unix based operating systems, whereas being on the web enables them to reach everyone with any kind of hardware they use.
