I'm part of a small group of about 30 guys. This site is for us only to share photos and files, jokes etc.
I don't want a site that is set up for a small business.
I don't want to attract a community outside of the 30 or so friends.
I DON'T want to connect to Facebook, Twitter or any other social network site.
I want it to be very, very simple.

Microsoft recently gave up on their offering and now refers everybody to Wordpress.

It announces itself as more of a blogging site, but you'll have control of its appearance, content, and users. Seems like it would work for you.

One word: Weebly. It's free. You can post up you photos, files and jokes with ease. I'm yet to reach a limit on pages or space. After you publish you can just click the link see what your page looks like. Personally, I've found it to be reliable. Offers back up facilities through downloading your files as a zip file.
Really the best option I've seen so far for someone looking for Simplicity.

KeepandShare is the leader in private sharing sites. Create one account and post all your photos, jokes, docs, files etc. Easy secure private sharing.
To give secure, private access to others, they do not need to have a KeepandShare account. Just type in their email address(es). They are sent an email with a secure link and password for private access to your share.
