hey my website (http://www.thesketchpadgallery.com) is a website I designed from scratch to hold a glimpse of my art so I can get it out in the open. How do I get the most traffic to my site for free.

I agree. Social media is the best and quickest way to attract website traffic. Blog and share about it as much as you can and be committed to the task. Update you site frequently and post about it on social medias.
The key here is that if you want it for free, you have to work for it
