How do you get noticed as a movie director/writer/author? - Amber - 01-20-2013 10:10 PM

I really want to be an author or movie director
but the problem is that I have no idea how to write, but I have a good imagination. I love daydreaming and I just want to get the dreams out of my head. I only go to school for half the day beacause I have extremely bad anxiety but I want to take writing classes. Sad
I just like to daydream and I want to be an author But I don't know how to get noticed or
Even write a GREAT story that isn't boring
And maybe one that inspires people. I really want help!

Make up your mind - do you want to be a writer or a director? Both involve telling stories, but beyond that, they're very different and need almost completely different sets of skills.

You're not going to get noticed as a director or writer if you haven't produced something that's worth noticing. There's nothing wrong with having big dreams, but if you expect them to come true, you have to put in the work to make that happen.

If you want to write or direct because you want to be famous and have people tell you how fabulous you are, that's probably the wrong reason. Most people who write don't earn enough from it for it to be their sole source of income. Ask yourself, "If no one except my mum and my best friend ever reads or watches what I do, would I still want to do it?" If the answer is "no", you might want to find another dream career.

You have to have a strong social media presence and network via Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Blog etc. to start.
