i want a place to go straight to my favorite sites

You can do that straight in your browser. If you're using chrome, click 'CTRL" + "D" to bookmark the current page. Goto your internet options and turn on the setting where the bookmarks bar is always displayed, you can right click the bookmarks bar and add the URL as well as the name of the bookmark there. I have organised sites into folders such as 'Social' which contains Facebook, Twitter etc.
