Who else thinks Facebook is worth arguing about? - Penguin - 01-22-2013 01:15 AM

I want to write an argument essay about Facebook. I could say about all social networking websites in general, but I think I'll speak more about FB as an example. I have some counter points in my mind, however, would like to hear your opinions too. I apologize in advance for those who can't live without Facebook, but I did choose this topic to argue about. Thanks

Facebook is full of drama and people who can't tell the difference between your and you're. I would say Facebook and most of the people on it and there to just start drama and it also ruins relationships. I do however use Facebook to talk to old friends and family. I only use Facebook to talk to family and old friends. Just like every website it has pros and cons.

Sure.

The first thing to know about Facebook is that it's privately owned and operated by Facebook, Inc. As of Feb 2012 there are more than 845 million active users worldwide who generate more than $3.71 billion (2011) in revenue to the owners and their 3000+ employees.

According to ConsumerReports.org (May 2011) there are more than 7.5 million children under 13 with accounts and 5 million under 10 years old, violating the site's terms of service. As of Jan 2009, Conpete.com ranked Facebook as the most used social networking service by monthly worldwide active users. Entertainment Weekly added the site on its end-of-the-decade-best-of list saying "How on earth did we stalk our exes, remember or co-workers birthdays, bug our friends, and play a rousing gane of Scrabulous before Facebook?"

According to Social Media Today, in April 2010 an estimated 41.6% of the US population had a Facebook account. However, Facebook's market growth started to stall in some regions, with the site losing 7 million active users in the USA and Canada in May 2011.

On Nov 29, 2011 Facebook agreed to settle US Federal Trade commission charges that it deceived consumers by failing to keep privacy promises.
