What will show up on my background check? - Sean Waple - 01-22-2013 08:47 PM

It is 2012 and I am 25 and I just recently applied and interviewed for a job in my career field. I have my bachelors degree and will have my MBA in marketing in May 2013.

In 2005 I was charged with forgery and it was dismissed and lowered to petty theft and receiving stolen property which I was found guilty of and had a $245 dollar fine. In 2007 I had an underage consumption and possession of alcohol of a minor (I was 20) as well as "misrepresenting identity" which was a bogus charge because I told the wrong social security number and they thought I did it on purpose. In 2009 I had a contempt of court for missing a court date.

Which of these are going to show up on the background check when they decide to run it? Will they prevent me from getting the job?

It is entry level but perfect job for me. I have great education background as well as work/intern experience. I've made some stupid mistakes when I was younger but who hasn't.

Are all of these going to show up on my
Yeah I know I can get that but I was just more curious with how long back the background checks go.

The first (more major incidents) were a little over 7 years ago.
Sorry Prairie Girl I wasnt aware that you were a perfect human being and never made a mistake as a teenager.

I guarantee every person has multiple friends who received underage consumption violations during college.

Ignorant.

You can get the same info they see.
You can visit a police station and ask for your criminal background.
I've heard some charge for a copy. Mine does this for free.
Just tell them that you are looking for work and having a tough time.
And that you want to be honest with an employer.

Do the above and to answer your quesiton, yes they WILL show up on the report. Maybe not all of them but definitely the forgery and contempt of court.

Everything will show up on the background check except the forgery, since it was dismissed. These "stupid mistakes" as you call them could prevent you from getting a job depending on where you apply. Not as many people as you seem to think have made stupid mistakes, and certainly not as many as you have. Hopefully you'll find an employer who believes in second chances.
