How can I get more people to follow me? What's the whole point of twitter? Can someone explain the basics?

Well first you should get your real life friends to follow you first to build some basic numbers...
You have to tweet interesting stuff or no-one well bother following you.
If you follow anyone who follows you more people will see your name. If you follow people who don't already follow you they might return the favour and follow you back.
If you google search : "how to get more followers on twitter" you'll get loads of stuff
