It's trendy now and just another example that came about from texting because typing You Only Live Once takes too long. It is an excuse for something stupid that they did, like it's ok yolo..... is often used as a hashtag on Twitter to bring attention to exciting events or excuse irresponsible behaviors. The acronym was popularized in 2011 after being featured in the hip hop single “The Motto†by Drake.

Because it stands for You Only Live Once and instead of saying the whole phrase, you can say the modern acronym for it which is simply YOLO - it sounds cool and basically sums up an entire ideology in one quick and fun word! Cheers!
