basically people post tweets, you can either favorite it, re-tweet it or ignore it. you can follow anyone u like, like most celebs have accounts or u can follow friends or people with tweets you like and u can post them too. it takes a bit to get used to but it's great after you get the hang of it.

Twitter is personally my favorite social network
When you create an account, you're gonna get suggestions for people you can follow, when you follow a person, you become a follower of that person, and his/her tweets will appear on your timeline (homepage), similarly, people can follow you and have your tweets on their timelines. Tweets are like statuses you post on twitter that your followers will see, you can attach photos, videos and URLs to your tweets. You can also retweet a person's tweet, which means you also sent it as a tweet on your profile, under that person's name, and now your followers will see it too hope you will understand it better now
