Is it true that jobs check you Facebook twitter ect now u days? And if so why do they do that? And what are they looking for?

Yes some jobs that pay well and have reputations to look out for. They want to know if you are a criminal or engage in risque behaviours.
Some do it in order to discriminate against candidates. For example a company does not want to hire Blacks so they may query someone's name and city to learn the race of that person. That person's resume is then ignored or trashed and s/he is never contacted for an interview. This is not illegal because that person was never denied a job because of his/her race.
Some are just nosy and looking for leverage against candidates/employees. Best to not have FB or twitter or use an alias.
