How realistic would a plan to "disappear and start over somewhere else" be in this day and age? - KILLER !! - 01-29-2013 10:12 AM

Can it be pulled off successfully?

Other then your internet networks, facebook, twitter etc., what other connections would one have to sever to successfully remain hidden?

I've always wondered this myself, i know it isn't a answer to your question.

However, you would have to also sever communication with your family. That would be the hardest for me.

Yes.
It happens everyday.
It would cost you a lot tho..

It can work if you aren't very well known, if there are no pictures around on the internet, if you have no close friendships, family, etc. who would search for you if you vanished. You would also have to 'lie low' in your new life and avoid getting your mug shown in newspapers, on TV etc. You'd have to change your name on all documents you have, which would cost a lot.

In this day and age with Homeland Security, The National Security Agency, the FBI etc. it is impossible to change your identity and "disappear". However, you can move with the permission of the Authorities if you are a convicted felon and start a new life based upon your socially acceptable behavior.

a bit like bankruptcy?

No it doesn't work. I tried. i couldn't get away from myself. I eventually had to face whatever music I was running from, and then start anew.

I've pondered this myself, but I don't think it's possible.
But, you could fake amnesia when you encounter a dangerous situation.
